My name is Alexis.
I am currently a senior at UNCW, studying film studies. I am the captain of the UNCW Women’s Track and Field Team (And hopefully this will be my third year in a row.) I have been the Women’s Field Athlete of the Year for two years. I am the secretary of the Student Athlete Advisory Council on campus. I a film department representative on the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Student Advisory Council. I work for the Office of the Dean of Students on campus.
I have a 3.8 GPA.
I’m the first person in my family to go to college with a sports scholarship.
I’m the first person in my family to win state championships back to back in high school.
In 2010 I actually cut myself once on purpose using the tip of a metal compass.
In 2011 I tried to commit suicide.
From 2010 – 2016 (high school and college) I would have suicidal thoughts.
In 2016 I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
In 2017, I started to take anxiety medication.
And from then on I’ve been on this wild journey to understand my mental health, while also trying to break the stigma of talking openly about mental health.
